About the Angola Briefing
The Angola Briefing provides independent English-language reporting and analysis of the political, economic and business developments shaping Angola.
It is produced by Zitamar News, Mozambique’s leading independent English-language news and intelligence service. Founded in 2015, Zitamar has built a reputation over more than a decade for authoritative reporting and analysis serving diplomats, investors, businesses, development organisations and others who need to understand the region.
The Angola Briefing brings together expert panellists in a discussion moderated by Zitamar’s editor-at-large Fernando Lima, one of southern Africa’s most experienced and respected journalists. Fernando has reported on Angola and Mozambique since before the beginning of their democratic eras. He covered the negotiations leading to Angola’s Bicesse Accords and Mozambique’s General Peace Agreement in the early 1990s, and has covered every multiparty election held in both countries since then.
Published twice a week, the Angola Briefing combines a flagship subscriber edition with a lighter free edition later in the week. Each draws on systematic monitoring of the Angolan media and the knowledge of journalists, analysts and other specialists with direct experience of the country.
The flagship edition brings together the week’s most important developments, looking beyond the headlines to explain what is changing, why it matters and what to watch next. The panel discussion is available live and subsequently as a recording and podcast, while the accompanying written briefing provides a concise account of the news and the panellists’ analysis.
The lighter edition, published on Thursday or Friday, offers a shorter update on developments since the start of the week and is available free to all readers.
